Do you accept or not? New painting

Hello mates,

After many scratches, scrapes, and door dings, I decided to take the car in for painting.

I picked it up yesterday after the whole week, and I wanted to ask you if you would accept this job as good or not, and what would you complain about.

Observe and vote or tell me things!

Handle area:

Doors (all 4 are the same): Front bumper: “Side skirts” (both are the same, with several scratches under the lacquer): Rear bumper: Headlight edge: Hood speck: Rear molding: Lacquered side skirts (both the same): Tailgate:

What would you complain about? [poll type=multiple results=always min=1 max=10 public=true chartType=bar] * Handle area * Door corners (all 4) * Front bumper * “Side skirts” (both the same) * Rear bumper * Headlight edge * Hood speck (there are several all over the car) * Rear molding * Lacquered side skirts * Tailgate [/poll]

I can’t say exactly how much it cost because I paid the insurance deductible, but to give an idea, it’s an official dealership, I guess the painting job (not counting dent repairs and such) would be around 1000-1300€.

Here’s a photo of the general view of the beast:

Thanks!

I’m not a professional painter, but that is a BOTCHED JOB in every sense of the word. Regardless of what they charged you, it’s a poorly done and unprofessional job. The drips and orange peel are from overly loaded varnish layers, all the impurities and specks either because it was taken out of the booth too soon or simply because it wasn’t painted in a booth. After a week, they could have perfectly fixed that (sanding the varnish layer to remove the specks, drips, orange peel, and polishing it), although the best solution would be to repaint. I don’t know how they could have delivered the car to you like that. Don’t think twice and have them repaint it.

Hello. The area around the door handle is indicative of the poor quality of the work. They painted the side of my car because of a dent they caused at the workshop (official service) and they did a terrible job both in paint and in the shape of the panel, so I made them redo it. And yes, the mechanic who brought my vehicle from the workshop was the one who caused the dent and tried to pass it off when delivering the car I took in for an official maintenance check. With this, I’m telling you that just because it’s an official service doesn’t mean they work better; it depends on the operator at that moment. What they’ve done is of low quality, but it doesn’t reach the level of the terrible job they did for me at an official service. Regards and patience, you’ll need it.

P.S.: My major complaint about Honda so far has been the after-sales service when Miguel wasn’t at Ibericar, rather than the car itself, which I have no significant complaints about.

Thank you both for participating and to those who voted! I see I should have included an option that said “all of the above” :joy:

@DAVICIVIC I can accept the orange peel effect, after all, in a paint workshop they can’t dedicate the time to polish it perfectly, that’s what detailers are for. Almost everything else, I do think in some cases it was a lack of care or they rushed the painter to deliver the car quickly.

@atreides I’m with you. What happened to you is a bummer. In the end, official service or not, it all starts and ends with the care the person dealing with your car puts into it, although I want to believe that in official services there are more of these types of people than those who are careless.

Here’s my experience after discussing all the defects at the workshop, in case it helps someone or if anyone can add more! The conclusions have been:

  • Dust specks are inevitable; they are not a workshop solely dedicated to painting cars (they have a regular booth and that’s it) and the hood is not removed for painting. Additionally, the painter recommends not removing them because they may disappear over time, and if you sand/polish them, those areas might have less shine in 3 months (this makes sense, although I’m not sure if it would affect much when applying a ceramic treatment).
  • The outer part of the side skirts will be repainted.
  • The inner part of the side skirts will be sanded and polished to make them shiny. It seems they are not removed for painting and are painted with the door closed.
  • The mark under the handle will be repaired. It’s due to old filler that the car already had, and after sanding and painting, a pore appeared, breaking the paint and lacquer.
  • Regarding the other marks, the painter explained that it’s due to the silicone in the paint itself, which may cause areas where the paint doesn’t adhere perfectly, and even if painted later with a fine brush, it might peel off due to lack of adhesion, and if they were to redo it, the same thing could happen.

If it helps you, great, if you want to add something, even better! :raising_hands: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

As the colleague mentioned earlier, just because it’s an official workshop doesn’t mean they’ll do everything right. I went to have the entire left side of my car painted because some joker scratched it from end to end with a key, and it was quite deep. I took it to be painted at an official workshop, and when they delivered it to me, everything seemed fine, but then looking more closely, I saw that when they painted it, they dismantled the doors, and it seems they must have placed them directly on the floor or with little care. As a result, the sides of both doors ended up with dents, and there were paint stains on the glass. My fault for not checking all that when I went to pick it up. I took it back, and they only cleaned the paint stains and ignored the rest, saying that I already had that before. The solution they offer is to sell me paint bottles at a discount so I can touch up the spots myself
So overall, quite dissatisfied with the official service, but as the colleague said, it depends a lot on who works there and their professionalism.
