Hello, I would like to know if anyone has done it or thought about changing the original tire size from 235/45/17 to 245/45/17. Since looking at the equivalence table, it seems it does not exceed the 3% for the ITV. Thank you.

Man, it can be done. That said, unless you’ve got yourself some 9" wide rims, I don’t understand why anyone would want to do it…

Looking at different websites. I see that for an 8” tire, the ideal size would be 225/235/ and the maximum size 245. That’s why the question

The stock tires are 7", I assume you have 8" because you’ve changed them. For 8" you can perfectly use 225 where the tire is cheaper, the consumption is lower, and the car handles better. As trade-offs, the wheel looks less aggressive, and you have less grip compared to a 245, but indeed, you can fit them if your goal is aesthetics even at the expense of performance and economy.
P.S.: I use 225.

I would say that the original 17” rims are 8” wide. I will check it anyway:ok_hand:. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have 215/50/r17 on the sedan… since I’m changing all four at once because I change them more due to time than mileage… I’m considering going for 225/45 r17… they’re cheaper although I need to make sure not to exceed the 3% and check the load carefully!! They once failed me with another car for not respecting the load (I obviously put less).

Yes, you can perfectly install 245, and it is equivalent.

I have a sedan and I use 225/45/17 tires on all four wheels without any issues at the MOT. Living in Asturias, I have them mounted for all four seasons and they work great. No problems at all. They perform well on snow, ice, and dry surfaces. For me, it’s the best size. You can really feel the grip in summer. Fuel consumption is also good, and I keep them at 2.4 pressure in all four tires.

I also have the sedan and tires 235/45/R17. They perform very well, but since it’s the R17 tire, it fits well with 225/45, both Yokohama. The ITV margin is 235 at 0.4% and 225 at 2.8%, passing the ITV without any problem.

You can change them, I’ve been using them since the first tire change and they’re perfect. The car runs better and you have more options to choose from.

The truth is I’m getting excited and I might just install 18-inch rims… I’ll have to check the equivalence there, but I’ll keep it in mind if I finally stick with the stock ones.

In 18”, it would be logical to go for 225/45 or 225/40, both have a slight difference in diameter, above and below respectively compared to the standard ones, but within the 3% legal margin. In this case, you would have to consider the price, I believe that 225/40 is a more standardized size in 18”, and therefore more economical.
