Introduction, still without a Civic

Hi everyone and congrats on the forum; even without owning a Civic yet, it’s helping me make decisions.

I’ve seen a used 1.6 i-DTEC unit that, at first glance and without digging too deep, seems to be in very good condition. It has its full service history from the official dealer for the first five years and is a 2019 model.

I’m quite happy with the first impression, but before going through with the purchase, I’d appreciate some advice on key points to check on this specific model so I don’t get any surprises. I’m not going to do an exhaustive inspection like an expert would, but I’d at least like to check the most common weak points.

That’s all for now, I hope to be able to present it here in a few weeks.

Regards and thanks in advance!

Make sure it’s cooling and that you don’t notice any strange noises from the air conditioner, like a whistling sound.

As others have said, the air conditioning is a critical point in this generation, with leakage issues in the evaporator and compressor. There was a service campaign to fix it, and you could ask if it’s already been done. As you’ve also been told, it should cool well and without any obvious whistling; if it cools but you notice it’s noisy, it’s likely to fail before long.

I would also check the battery, make sure the start-stop is working, and that there are no unusual lights or warnings on the dashboard, as the electronics sometimes go haywire specifically when the battery is low.

Another thing that caused problems is the parking sensors, but that’s easy to spot. Also, keep an eye out for rattles, fit and finish, and so on…

Being the diesel, it shouldn’t have any mechanical problems if the services were done on time and such.

Thank you very much for your comments. Honestly, the car surprised me with its refinement for a diesel; the interior too, as I expected it to be cheaper based on what I had read, and even without being an Audi, the finishes felt quite decent.

Now it’s time to decide between this model or an A3… the A3 is a bit tight on space for me and honestly, I feel like trying a Japanese car since I’ve always had European ones… even though my work is quite closely related to the VAG group…

If I finally buy it, I’ll let you know and introduce it here.. Cheers!
