Hello! The other day during the car inspection at the Honda dealership in Seville, they filled up the windshield washer fluid. When they filled it to the top, liquid started leaking from the headlight area, creating a big puddle. After a while, the liquid stopped coming out. They informed me that the injectors of the left and right headlights were broken and gave me the estimate attached in the image (185 Euros!!!).
The truth is that until that moment, the car hadn’t shown any symptoms, no leaks, no problems with the wipers, and it happened when the fluid was filled to the brim. I suppose that because the circuit was full or due to pressure, the liquid came out through the break until it stopped overflowing there when the fluid level dropped sufficiently.
When I asked about the possible cause, they told me it might be because the front bumper absorbs and transmits impacts that could have broken the injectors, impacts caused by people who “park by ear.”
Now my doubts:
Should I fix it with the estimate they gave me?
Should I not fix it? It’s quite expensive, and after all, the wipers work; the only downside is that if the fluid is filled to the top, it overflows.
Do you think they overcharged me with the estimate, and could it be fixed cheaper elsewhere?
Is it possible and would it be feasible to do a DIY fix (My level of “mechanics” is quite basic, similar to, albeit with some differences, when I once changed a front headlight of a Corsa)?
Do you know if it’s a part prone to breaking or a common failure (because if I spend that much money only for it to break again the next time someone carelessly bumps into it while parking…)?
It’s true that now that I know about this issue, I might have noticed a bit less pressure in the wiper spray, but very subtle, to be honest.
They were changed for me during a front bumper repair covered by insurance. At the time (2018), I was told that some leaked from the factory. I don’t know if it’s really a factory problem or if they are sensitive to impacts.
I don’t see it as very expensive, but I advise you this. If you have LED lights, fix it, if not, don’t. They are parts that can get damaged as you were told by friction and bumps (they crack). But if it’s not leaking at the level, I wouldn’t worry.
Thank you for your response, mognet. I don’t have LED lights, and in fact, even with the break, they spray their liquid towards the headlights. I suppose fixing it if I have LED lights is because they are more sensitive to headlight dirt, right?
A small puddle that remains (I don’t know if it’s from the dripping or if it comes out from somewhere else, I’ll test it with someone else, at that moment I was alone)
Hello, but it’s normal for there to be water left on the ground after using them, around the area of the wipers, right? I just tested mine and they work fine, and I don’t notice anything strange, but it leaves a small puddle under the front bumper, on each side.
Yes, me too, and it drips after hitting the headlight, drips and ends up on the ground. But a similar puddle formed when they filled the liquid to the top (until the level dropped enough so that no more liquid leaked).
Hello, continuing with this topic, if you use the regular washer (not the headlight washer), the first time the headlight washer is also activated, and as water comes out of it, it may fall on the ground, but this is a normal part of the washer’s operation. If you check the car’s manual, it states that the first time the washer water is activated, the headlight washers are also activated. I mention this to avoid confusing the potential issue with the injectors with the normal use that is pre-set from the factory.
