Let’s take everything presented in this thread with a grain of salt for now, as I have yet to find a 100% official source, hence the follow-up thread.
A few days ago, an American page for Type R accessories published what appears to be a new Honda service bulletin, which includes information about possible water leaks in the hood of the FK8 where the air intake is located.
In a quick summary, due to the design of this hood, there are 9 small holes through which water enters; however, this water would end up falling in the spark plug area of cylinder no. 4. On the same page, they mentioned that FK8 owners had already detected this in 2018 and that their preventive solution had been to seal those holes with water-resistant tape.
If we take what appears in the bulletin as true, Honda has updated the design of what I am still not sure if it’s just the cover that covers the cylinders or which specific part it refers to (see image), so that the water falling in that area is properly drained.
The water falling in the area of cylinder no. 4 can lead to premature corrosion of the coil, spark plug, and the cylinder itself, resulting in misfires and the error code DTC0304. I’m lacking some technical language; when it refers to changing the cylinder head cover, I don’t know if it simply refers to the valve cover, but the part number it refers to has a rather high price 10003-RPY-G01.
In the same message, they recommend removing the grille and sealing those 9 holes to prevent this.
