Basically, I’m making this post because at this point, there are quite a few cars passing the 120k km mark, and questions about spark plugs are popping up frequently.
What spark plugs do our cars use?
The OEM spark plug is the NGK-ILZKAR8H8S PN: 95112. It costs around 20~24€ per plug + shipping on Autodoc.
Replacing them at Honda costs about 47€ per plug plus labor, totaling roughly 260€ approx.
Using other “compatible” spark plugs, whether Bosch or Denso, is NOT recommended because even though they might physically fit, they aren’t designed for our engines, and more than one user has had problems.
ALTERNATIVE 1 (The recommended one, better quality and better price)
But there is an exception: the ruthenium NGK LKAR8BHX PN: 91784. Originally designed to replace spark plugs for the Nissan 370z and GTR, their specifications are identical to ours, but with the benefit of using two new technologies: the improved ruthenium alloy for the spark plug tip and the PSPE design intended to improve ignition in turbo engines. More info at: Ruthenium HX™ Spark Plugs - NGK Spark Plugs
I’ve tested them and they work perfectly. You might notice it feels a bit smoother, but the perceptible difference for the driver is very minimal.
And the best part of all is the price. Buying through https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/ngk,91784,spark+plug,7212 (a giant US distributor), they come out to 8€ per unit, which after adding customs and shipping ends up being around 13~16€ per plug (depending on the chosen shipping and quantity of plugs).
To install these spark plugs for the first time, we need to apply a torque of 22Nm, which should equate to a 1/2 turn for a plug straight out of the box. For a used spark plug, simply tighten to 22Nm.
