Good morning, do you still have it?
Yes
I still have it
Quick question, I’m thinking about the springs—have you noticed anything strange when you shorten the spring travel with the adaptive suspension? I’ve been told it’s not good because you shorten the travel, and especially in Sport and R modes, the rebound when coming out of bumps is much harsher than normal.
Thanks in advance
You can notice both the steering and the response being stiffer, but that’s about it. I also have Stage 1 done and the car’s response is fantastic. Plenty of grip, and it already felt like it was on rails in the corners, but now even more so. The only “downside” is speed bumps and curbs, where you have to be more careful now. And garage ramps, but that’s the same as any low car.
The Eibach Pros are a 1.5cm drop at the front and 1cm at the back, right?
The intake looks awesome, the bad thing is the nightmare of the Spanish ITVs… in the end, it’s just a cash grab all around.
Yeah, the discount is more or less around there.
Correct, the increased stiffness means the shock absorber, which isn’t designed for the new spring rate, doesn’t have enough hydraulic damping, so the car oscillates and gets more bouncy. You notice it especially in highway dips or short, sharp bumps where the wheel stays in the air for a few moments.
People can tell you whatever stories they want, but the reality if you ask anyone who knows even the slightest bit about suspension is just that. With or without adaptive suspension, but with adaptive it’s worse, because the ECU calculates based on the original parameters, while it’s actually working lower and more compressed, which messes everything up.
Morrillu: with four rigid blocks of rubber, it grips like crazy, until it stops gripping…
Many thanks, that’s exactly what I thought, and that’s why I looked for info on this, although it’s very biased in forums and such because almost no one has real info. I went to wheel and suspension specialists and they agreed that if anything was going to happen, it would be that—having less travel, when coming off sharp, short bumps like speed bumps, I’d notice the suspension’s behavior on the rebound. Since the compression would be forced, but the recovery pull—having less travel—would cause a “clunk” felt in both the steering wheel and by my feet, in the areas of contact with the vehicle. At the time, I was looking at springs with an even greater drop than these Eibachs, so knowing how adaptive suspension works, I had a nagging suspicion about this.
Do you still have the exhaust line?
