This is my first post and I need some help, as it’s getting quite frustrating.
Civic FK7 Sport Plus 1.5 (Manual). When shifting between first, second, and third, the gears don’t go in smoothly; I feel a slight resistance, a blockage, as if the gear doesn’t want to engage. At Honda, they told me they think it’s normal, but sometimes the effort required to “push through” that resistance is quite excessive.
It’s most noticeable when downshifting from 2nd to 1st…
Is there something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Clutch fully depressed, brake fluid changed very recently, gearbox oil (valvulina) changed at Honda as well, and it’s still the same…
The car has 33,000 km now. I bought it second-hand less than a year ago. It didn’t do this before; it’s been happening for about 3 months.
I didn’t know about that protection, to be honest… I’ll avoid shifting from 2nd to 1st from now on. But the thing is, it also happens to me from 1st to 2nd… but not all the time either, sometimes it goes in great…
Hi, the exact same thing is happening to me. The only thing is that I’ve seen it get worse since I bought it (5 years ago). I’ve tried everything; I notice that when shifting, the gears feel rougher, like it’s struggling or something. This happens to me a lot, especially when the car is cold; once it’s been running for a while, it usually smooths out quite a bit. I changed the transmission fluid during my last service. The car is 5 years old with 25,000 km, and I’ve noticed it’s having a hard time shifting from first to second, and sometimes second to third. To get it into reverse, I absolutely have to put it in third first, which didn’t happen at the beginning, but since it’s a short-ratio gearbox, I didn’t mind that much. I tried a friend’s car (same model) and, from my point of view, you can tell it’s smoother. In short, I got really paranoid about it and took it to the shop twice. One was the official dealer and the other was an independent shop, and both told me they didn’t see anything unusual. Since I’ve never had a short-ratio box like this one, I decided to just let time be the judge, but it looks like it’s just the normal behavior for this gearbox
I think that with 1st gear, as you’ve been told, it’s normal for it to resist engaging above a certain speed, just like reverse; I believe this happens in many vehicles. It’s a different story if, over time and with possible wear of the gearbox components, this difficulty increases and starts spreading to other gears.
I’ve started noticing it with 3rd gear for a few months now; sometimes it resists engaging whether coming from 2nd or 4th, or if it does go in, it does so with a vague “clack.” I opened a thread about this. I’m planning to change the transmission fluid to see if it improves.
Because everyone raves about this gearbox—and it’s true that in terms of position, ergonomics, and lever throw, it is—but to me, the shifts feel like they could be improved. Sometimes they feel crisp and precise, but other times they don’t, and I don’t know if it’s just my specific vehicle that might have a problem.
Hi, gear shifting has never felt right for me and it seems to be getting worse; from first to second and second to third is where I notice it most. My question is for those who have installed those Acuity upgrades or something similar: would those help reduce the play in the shifter and improve the feel? I’d also like to ask which exact parts they are and if any shop can install them. Thanks.
And I’m thinking, could it be a poorly adjusted clutch? Like when you don’t push the pedal all the way to the floor and the gear doesn’t go in right? Maybe the clutch pedal isn’t completing its full travel?
