I imagine that when the Takata airbag recall came out, your mechanic, who is clearly “very smart,” would tell you not to change it, that as long as you don’t crash, you won’t get killed.
Morrillu: when you get stranded, or the car goes into failure mode, tell the mechanic to come pick you up in the car of San Fernando.
The point is that it is a preventive campaign. And as the popular saying goes, “better safe than sorry.” 99% of those of us who have gone through the campaign had cars that worked fine. The change is not to fix something that is wrong, but to try to prevent the failure that they know can happen. Getting stranded suddenly on a highway, for example, with the danger it entails. And look, for example, I don’t even want to see the incompetent staff at the official workshop in my city. Even so, I asked them to make the change required by this campaign.
If you still decide not to change it, go ahead, it’s your car and everyone “manages” it as they want.
Hello, the other day it stalled and had trouble starting, all the warning lights came on along with the engine light, so I took it to Honda Cotri. Faulty fuel pump. My car is a Civic X 1.5 turbo sport and it’s five and a half years old. It’s from late 2020. 83,000 km and no recall appeared when entering the VIN in the famous link. Taking advantage of the fact that they’re working on the fuel tank, I’ll have them change the fuel filter integrated into the pump. It’s changed at 120,000 km, so I’m getting ahead (83,000 km) and will change it again at 170,000 km. It’s to save on labor costs.
Do you know if the pump recall is just the pump or, as I thought, should I change the fuel filter? When it needs to be done at 120,000, it will cost double due to labor. P.S.: Good thing it happened in the center of Málaga, if it happened on the road, I’d be in trouble. A week working with my mother’s car.
Someone here had the pump changed for the campaign, and they charged almost 200 for the filter, taking advantage of the fact that they were disassembling it.
Hello Flavio, how many kilometers do you have? They charge me 101 euros which are already budgeted. I prefer to pay them now and go with the clean filter, and when I reach 180,000, go to the shop and pay about 250€ or a little more. Also, it will coincide with the spark plugs unless they fall before. I knock on wood that I don’t have problems with the air conditioning or with the injectors, heaters, or spark plugs. Quite a bit of money in annual maintenance but I need the car to be as well-maintained as possible. Best regards
I did it like this… and they charged me 180 euros, so it turned out quite well for you… I drive few kilometers a year and I use additive gasoline with its cleanings and stuff, so I hope I don’t have to change it again… or maybe I will… it wouldn’t be a bad sign either… hehe By the way… you missed the valve adjustment which also goes at 120k
Edit. I called the dealership, they checked internally and told me that for safety reasons, even though they already changed it for a failure in August '22, they will change it again.
Maybe the new pump has some additional specifications compared to the previous one…
Well, I’m going to follow their advice and change it again. By the way, if they give me a bit of a discount, I’ll ask them to do the AB27 inspection that’s been showing for 20 days now…
As soon as the electric fuel pump failed, the high-pressure pump also failed, and they are making me pay for it. The brand is not taking responsibility. It’s not the same to have a preventive campaign to change a working pump as when it’s broken. What do you think? Today I authorized the repair, and they will notify me when it’s ready. Civic 1.5 turbo 2019 Regards
Tomorrow marks 20 days without my car. I’ll let you know what they tell me at the dealership about the high-pressure pump. If you know someone, please have them write to me and we can talk. Thank you very much.
Well, for the second time, they’ve changed the pump on campaign.
They told me that the first time they saw a fault in the fuel gauge, but then the pump itself, which is why they are replacing them again for safety and under warranty…
After the trouble I went through on the highway with the fault, I’m changing it without a second thought!!!
I asked for a paper, receipt, or something, and they told me it wouldn’t be available for a few days due to some warranty issue… sounds like a story to me, but it’s true that the same thing happened with the air condenser… Although last time, I did ask and they gave me a receipt for the pump.
Well, in 15 days, I’m going to ask for it, just because hahaha. I want a receipt for what was done!
Hello, in the end, I paid and now I have the car. 20 days without it. I have written to Honda Spain. By the way, two years ago the fuel gauge also failed on me, but they fixed it under warranty. I don’t know, I’ve never had problems with a high-pressure fuel pump, but they tell me they don’t know why it failed. They keep the high-pressure pump at the dealership for up to 3 months. If Honda doesn’t request it for study, they will give it back to me after this time. I hope it doesn’t happen again, it’s a very unpleasant situation on the highway. Regards to everyone.
Hello, I would have done the same, and when it’s under warranty, you have to take action. Mine, out of warranty, had the famous pump FAIL, and when they performed the campaign, the high-pressure one failed. When I wrote to Honda Spain, they told me they couldn’t provide a technical explanation and passed the responsibility to the COTRI dealership. When they are the ones who authorize and set the work guidelines. It doesn’t make sense to me that a high-pressure pump fails right after the campaign is carried out. Well, they shirk responsibility, and COTRI has to give me the explanations. What do you think? Can I do anything about it? In my late 2019 car, no campaign has been carried out, and it’s supposed to be the same pump and the same A/C. If the brand admits to manufacturing and design faults and doesn’t resolve them during the warranty period or doesn’t apply a campaign, I find it very strong that when it breaks 5 months out of warranty, the consequences of an unperformed campaign fall on the user. Sorry for the long message, but I’m angry, and in Spain, things are only fixed with money, and the customer is lost and without information. Best regards to everyone.
If you feel inclined, hire an expert and have them prove that the fault is due to something poorly done or to the pump… It’s a long and difficult path, all things considered.
It will cost me more for the collar than the dog, if they don’t respond to the next justified breakdown, then I’ll go back to the neighborhood mechanic. I’m a bit frustrated. I think due to the customer service received and the discount on the bill, they don’t give me the information and I would have the pump in my possession. I’ll let you know if they give it to me and if they provide any report since Honda Spain tells me to ask them for it. I have it in writing. Regards
My experience with my 2019 Civic 1.5: I entered the chassis number on the Honda website and it was among those affected. I contacted Honda Cotri Marbella, they gave me an appointment and replaced it for free. I should mention that I no longer had the factory warranty, but since I always took it to the dealership for everything, they took care of everything. A 10 for them.
I fall within the range of affected chassis, but when I enter the number on Honda’s website, it still shows that there is no campaign for me. I want to think that they are waiting for another batch of parts to call people again because otherwise, I’m just driving with a bomb that could fail at any moment.
According to the latest bulletin on the forum, for now, the calls for several models are on hold, and they won’t fix it unless the pump fails. They are only calling the Jazz, HR-V, and Civic FC5.
An unsolicited piece of advice:
Those of you going (when you go) to change the fuel pump, ask the dealer how long until your next service #4.
Why, you ask curiously… Well, because service #4 indicates that the fuel filter needs to be changed WHICH IS RIGHT UNDER THE F*CKING FUEL PUMP. And that way, you don’t have to pay for labor time if you do it all at once.
They didn’t tell me anything, and you can imagine the dumb look on my face and the anger I felt when they told me where the filter was after changing the pump in the campaign less than 4 months ago.
